  5. A Chiropractor’s Confession: “I Hate Getting ‘Cracked’!”

Yes! I am a chiropractor, and it’s true.
I hate getting “cracked”—my lower back and neck that is.

I just don’t like it. Never have. It scares me.

But there’s good news for folks like me.

You can get a great chiropractic adjustment
WITHOUT feeling or hearing a “crack.”

No “cracking.” No pain. No fear. No kidding.

Different Chiropractors, Different Methods

If you’ve been to more than one chiropractor, you’ve probably
noticed that each chiropractor has his or her own unique style
of adjusting.

However, adjusting methods usually fall into two basic categories:

Manual manipulation and instrument adjusting.

Some chiropractors position and move their hands just right
to expertly manipulate or adjust the joints in your spine.
That thrust produces a cracking or popping sound, like
a knuckle popping.

Other chiropractors, like me, are skilled in using low force,
precision instruments to deliver gentle adjustments
that produce
no sound at all—and no pain.

Sure, you may have sore spots that are tender to
touch—that’s a given when you’re suffering from pain in
your neck, back, or other areas.

But the adjustments themselves are very easy on you.

Temporary Roadblock

When I was attending my four-year graduate college at Sherman
College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC, I loved learning
about the human body and the science and art of chiropractic.

I was passionate about helping people with
chiropractic care. [click here]

However, when I started adjusting patients in clinic, I didn’t
love using higher-force “manipulation” techniques to adjust
patients’ spines.

In fact, I didn’t like my own neck and back being adjusted
by those methods.

Furthermore, shortly after I graduated from Sherman College
with a baby in tow, I had a 2-week stint of crippling lower
back pain. Using our methods of delivering adjustments,
my husband, also a fledgling chiropractor, and myself gave
me no relief.

So, we begged for help from a chiropractor nearby!

Feeling is Believing

After struggling with crippling lower back pain for two weeks,
this experienced Doctor of Chiropractic gave me
miraculous relief . . . in less than a minute. [click here]

And the adjustment itself didn’t hurt at all. Not one little bit!

One minute I could barely walk or even crawl
with my baby.
The next minute I could walk
upright with almost no pain at all!

I was blown away!

In my 4 years of chiropractic college, I had never seen or heard of
the low-force adjusting method used by that chiropractor.

A Major Shift in My Chiropractic Methods

That transformational, pain-to-no-pain moment changed
the trajectory of my career as a chiropractor—sparking
my lifelong quest to master the adjusting technique
that helped me.

It’s call Sacral Occipital Technique (SOT). [click here]

I also pursued other gentle, effective lower force techniques.

I Love What I Do

To this day, I love adjusting my patients, humbled and grateful
for their trust. I use a combination of gentle, lower force techniques,
tailored for each patient on each visit. [click here]

No two patients are adjusted the same, and adjustments
vary from visit to visit for the same person, depending upon
their current complaints and what I find.

Different Strokes for Different Folks

Every one of us is different with different needs
and preferences. Some people prefer and respond well
to being adjusted with hand manipulatoins.

Others prefer gentle, instrument adjustments.

One thing for sure, if you love your chiropractor,
stick with him or her.
